Policy Objectives
This policy is continually reviewed to ensure its validity and relevance to the company, its operations and the compliance obligations required for ISO 14001 registration.
We are committed to conducting our activities in ways that, as far as reasonably and commercially practicable do not harm the environment. We deliver on this commitment by:
- Establishing, implementing, and maintaining an Environmental Policy that:
- Ensures that we undertake activities in accordance with Environmental Management Procedures that are appropriate to the activities being undertaken.
- Requires the company to set environmental objectives annually. They will be communicated to all staff and reviewed periodically.
- Implement policies and procedures that will satisfy applicable requirements to protect the environment, prevent pollution, reduce waste, and control waste electrical and electronic equipment.
- Requires a policy review and update of policies and procedures at least annually to continually improve the Environmental Management System.
- Nick Whittaker is the Director responsible for Environmental Affairs and will manage environmental protection measures throughout the Company.
- Prevent the company’s activities harming the general environment or endangering public health.
- To work towards a minimum use of new products and a maximum recycling of used materials in all areas of the business, particularly:
- Paper, Card, and Plastics
- Toners, Print Cartridges and Magnetic Media
- Batteries and electronic and electrical equipment
- To comply with the law
Environmental Protection Measures:
The Company will implement the following measures,
- A regular appraisal to identify substances which could be harmful to the environment and which are used in, or produced because of, any of the Company’s activities and to assess their potential risk to the working and general environment.
- The setting up and maintenance of appropriate measures to prevent substances identified above from causing harm to the working and general environment, including contingency plans to meet environmental emergencies
- A regular appraisal of current environmental law and regulations and Implementation, monitoring and control of all measures required to comply with the above
- Implement and maintain files of any consents, permits and duty of care records applicable to the Company’s activities
Control of Trade Waste and Rubbish:
The Company, together with our employees will control all waste created during our business and prevent its illegal disposal by others to whom we pass it. We will stop waste in our care from escaping. It will be stored safely and securely and remain safe and secure whilst being collected.
- All paper used within the company is to be recycled. All desks and workstations are supplied with recycling baskets for recyclable paper. Confidential paper waste is collected in separate storage facilities and passed for secure shredding. The contents of these baskets are emptied into large recycling bins that are provided for that purpose.
- The company has registered under the Producer Responsibility Obligation (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007; obtains the required permits and other documentation and ensures that approved contractors collect all waste and recycled material. The company has registered as a Waste Carrier, obtained the required permit and issues customers from whom it collects reusable or recyclable material with the required Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note either as a Season Ticket or single collection
- Wherever practicable, Printer and Toner cartridges, used within the office are recycled. The Company actively encourages its customers to be a part of this initiative and operates a collection and storage service for recyclable cartridges.
Control of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment:
The Company, together with our employees will control all waste electrical and electronic equipment arising from our business and prevent its illegal disposal by others to whom we pass it. We will stop waste in our care from escaping. It will be stored safely and securely and remain safe and secure whilst being collected. The company will fulfil its obligations under the WEEE directive and ensure that waste electrical and electronic equipment is disposed of by approved means.
Storage of Volatile Materials on Site:
All staff will make sure that they are aware of,
- The quantity, location and type of volatile materials that are stored on site
- The potential impact on the environment in the event of fire, spillage, or other form of escape.
- The facilities in place to deal with emergencies e.g., fire extinguishers, personal protection, and cleaning materials.
- Necessary first aid required if people become contaminated or injured.
