General Policy
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent regulations have established a statutory duty to ensure as far as is reasonably practicable, the safety, health, and welfare of their employees whilst at work and all other groups of people who are in contact with them because of their business activities.
Workplace Wardrobe recognizes the importance of The Health and Safety at Work legislation and accepts responsibility for ensuring that a safe and healthy working environment is provided, as far as is reasonably practicable for the mutual benefit of themselves, their employees and all other groups of people who are in contact with them because of their business activities.
Special Objectives
Through management at all levels and with the active participation of all employees, Workplace Wardrobe will, subject to it being reasonably practicable:
- Provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities.
- Consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety.
- Provide and maintain safe plant and equipment.
- Provide a safe means of using, handling, storing, and transporting articles and substances.
- Provide information, instruction, and supervision for employees as is necessary to promote their health and safety at work.
- Provide training for employees to ensure that they are competent to do their tasks.
- Provide working environments that are safe, without risk to health, with adequate facilities and arrangements for staff welfare and with a safe means of entry and exit.
- Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health
- To review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.
- We will continually improve the H&S Management System to meet the requirements of our accreditation to ISO 45001 2018
Health & Safety Specific Objectives
Operational objectives will be set annually and reviewed twice per year
- All staff through the consultation process will have the opportunity to contribute to the setting of the objectives
- Progress towards achievement will be reported at the quarterly H&S meetings
Organisation and Arrangements for the Operation of the Policy
The Director responsible for Health and Safety is Nick Whittaker. The senior manager responsible for the overall control and implementation of the Health and Safety Policy is Rosemary Duke Finance and HR Manager. Line Managers are responsible within the company for the management of Health and Safety and should be consulted to resolve any matters giving rise for concern. If a satisfactory conclusion cannot be reached contact the Finance and HR Manager.
We will work to eliminate hazards and reduce risks by implementing the Hierarchy of Control. Risk Assessments covering all areas of our operations will be completed, actioned, published, and reviewed at least annually.
It is the duty and legal requirement of every employee whilst at work to:
- Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
- Co-operate with Line Managers and the Senior Management Team on health and safety matters.
- Not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety.
- Report all health and safety concerns, including accidents to their Line Manager.
Guidance to all Employees
Ensure that you are familiar with the location and operating instructions for all fire fighting equipment
- Ensure that you are familiar with the system of evacuating the site in the event of an emergency.
- Ensure that designated fire doors are kept closed and escape routes are kept clear of all obstructions.
- Personal, mains operated electrical equipment is not acceptable. Only equipment provided by the company may be used on our premises.
- Do not overload electrical sockets. Report any defect in the wiring or operation of electrical equipment.
- Ensure that chairs, stools, steps, stepladders, pallet trucks, forklifts and any other equipment are safe to use
- Ensure that all cupboards, shelving, and other means of storage are secure and that all stock is stored safely.
- Ensure that care is taken in the lifting, carrying, and setting down of goods to avoid the risk of personal injury.
- Report worn or uneven floor areas and stair treads.
- Ensure that you are familiar with the location of the First Aid Box.
